The Commandments
Scripture References
Deuteronomy 5:1-21
Psalm 111:7-8
Devotional
The commandments weren’t given simply to tell God’s people what they should or shouldn’t do. They set God’s people apart, revealing God’s character and showing what it looks like to love Him and love others. Jesus took those same commands even deeper, teaching that obedience is measured not only by our actions but by the condition of our hearts. As we follow Him, we are invited not simply to keep God’s commands, but to become the kind of people who live them out.
"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts." Deuteronomy 6:4-6
